Donald Joseph Mahoney passed away Tuesday 10/17/2023 at the age of 90. He received the Sacrament of the Sick (Last rites) twice in his lifetime. Once a few days before he died this week and once nearly 71 years prior when he was critically wounded as a Marine during the 1st Battle of the Hook in Korea. The date was 10/29/1952 which happened to be Dad’s 20th birthday.
Amazingly Dad was given almost 71 more years, and he accomplished a lot. Marriage in 1958 to Patricia Mahoney (Lang) which produced 6 kids in 8 years. Dad wore a lot of hats back then: baseball coach, scout leader, scuba diving enthusiast and above all else was family leader - you couldn’t ask for a better dad.
After the kids were grown, he moved to Florida and started Mahoney’s Handyman in 1984, which is still run by his son Donald Joseph Mahoney jr. In his later years he traveled the world with his loving companion, Marilyn Malpeli.
Donald is survived by the following:
Son Edward Mahoney and wife Debra Mahoney (Masterson), Son Donald Mahoney and wife Kirsten Mahoney (Bendixen), Daughter Catherine Mahoney (Thistle), Son Thomas Mahoney, Son Patrick Mahoney and wife Donna Mahoney (Straka), 11 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by the following:
His loving wife Patricia Mahoney (Lang), His loving companion Marilyn Malpeli, His daughter Linda Mahoney (Dougall / Lunn), His son in law William Thistle.
