I am truly sorry to learn of Mr. Whidden's passing. A few of my high school buddies went on to become deputies with the Sheriff's Department and always had good things to say about him.

He is without a doubt a Naples original and will always be a part of Naples History.

Chuck was always with a smile and good sense of humor.  With all the dealings I had with him and the Sheriff Department it was always a straight forward honest exchange. Chuck was an incredibly decent human being, gentle soul, loving family man and SO much more. I loved his jokes, his company and his stories.  I simply adored this man as I know you all did. I am sad he is gone but feel very lucky to have known him.

My Uncle Chuck was one of the best men God ever put on this earth. He was kind; thoughtful; loving; caring; dedicated; accepting of all and admired by all. I will miss the hours of stories he would tell -- even those with no point no matter how many times I heard them. I just loved listening to him speak, as I would hang on every word. He was a father figure to me and filled a void in my life.

I will dearly miss my Uncle Chuck. He will hold a special place in my heart forever. I love you, Uncle Chuck.

What great memories,..whenever there was some kind of dustup in E. Naples, North, GG, Immokalee, E City, Chuck (Doug & Aubry) knew exactly what tree to shake and kept the county safe..lots of their 'brothers' too..RIP

Just last week, I drove down Guilford Road and pointed out to my husband where everyone lived. The old neighborhood sure has changed. I started at the end and pointed out Tommy, Nathan and Kenny's house and across the side street, Sandy, Laurie, June and Chuck's house and oh look, there was where Roy and Juan lived and just across the street was my old house. What a great neighborhood to grow up in, a cop on every corner. Uncle Chuck, you will always be in my heart and I will always have such beautiful memories of you driving down the street in the squad car, smile on your face as you nodded and waved while you passed all of us kids playing in the street. You were legacy at the Sheriff's Dept.for all of the hard work that you did for Collier County.

My love and compassion go out to Chuck's family.  He made so many people's lives the better for having known him (mine definitely included).

I remember Chuck back when my Mom,Louise Gaede, owned Seminole Trailer Park in East Naples. I thought he was the handsomest man I had ever seen.He looked so sharp in his uniform,and I had a schoolgirl crush on him. I am so sorry for your loss and his wonderful smile.He an Stormy Sharp would stop by and visit at the trailer park gas station and store. Many times they helped my Mom when she had problems with people at the park.God Bless!

June, I am remembering what a great guy Chuck was.  So sorry for your loss.  I have been remembering long ago, do you recall the Willie Nelson concert in Ft. Myers,  Curtis, Alice, David and I and you and Chuck went...It was truly an evening to remember.  My thoughts are with you and your family, he was a good man and friend to so many.

Chief Whidden was a dedicated law enforment officer, friend, and family man.  May your many happy memories bring you comfort.

What an AMAZING man he was!! He was never without a complement and always had the best jokes, always! What a unforgettable smile he had... His family is a true reflection of the love, loyalty, and kindness he has shown. "Grandad" was absolutley one of a kind!! He is never to be forgotten or replaced. I may not be a grandchild by blood but, he  always treated me like family. He and Grandma June have always been the most loving and caring.
