
Eltress was born on February 22, 1941, in Newton, MA, and grew up in Melrose, MA. She went to Melrose High School, and was active in a number of activities, especially the Modern Dance Club. She was selected to be on the Jordan Marsh Company’s Marsha Jordan Council, was engaged with the Youth Fellowship of the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, and was a member of the Kappa Delta Psi sorority. Eltress graduated from Chamberlayne Junior College, and initially worked in retail. One of her first jobs was in Filenes Basement. In June, 1963, she married Douglas S. Dick, of Wellesley, MA, and worked in the Adolescent Unit of Children’s Hospital in Boston, helping to put her husband through Dental School. Later, when she lived in Boxford, MA, she was very involved with the Heart Fund, Cub Scouts and Brownies, USTA Tennis, and was a member of the Junior League of Boston. She was an excellent artist, especially in watercolors, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and loved playing and watching tennis.
Eltress is survived by her husband, daughter Nancy Dick Johnson (Marc Johnson) of Durham, NC, son Geoffrey Charles Dick (married to Amy Houser) of Raleigh, NC, grandchildren Gianna and Alexander Dick, sisters Nancy Mitchell, Deborah Mitchell, and brothers John Mitchell and Charles Mitchell.
She was a wonderful mother and was her husband’s soulmate.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
