George Henry Riebesell, 87, of Naples, FL, passed away on March 16, 2015. He was born in Secaucus, New Jersey on September 4, 1927 and graduated from Union Hill High School in 1944. Upon graduating, he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians as a pitcher and played on the Single A Team, the Batavia Clippers, for two years. He served in the U.S. Army after World War II, organizing baseball leagues in Tokyo, Japan. In addition, he was the Recreation Director in Secaucus for almost 30 years. He was most recently honored with their new Ice Skating Rink being named after him for his years of service, the ceremony to be held on April 4, 2015.
George was married to Dolores Bello for 60 years, who predeceased him on 3/3/2014. He was survived by his three sons, Robert (Karen) of Naples, Jeffrey of Atlanta, GA, and Gary (Kelli) of Bakersfield, CA; Grandchildren, Ryan, Kerri, Daniel, Michael, Kelly, Jenny; and Great Grandchildren Avery and Ella Claire. He was also survived by his sister, Beryl Reiser, and her children Rich, Diane and Susan.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Unity Church, Naples, FL on Saturday, March 28th at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to The United Way of Collier County.
