
Herbert Hasson, son of Virginie (Baruch) and Nathan Hasson, passed away in the early morning hours of May 7th after a valiant effort to stay in this life for his beloved wife Matty. Born in New York City on July 17, 1923 on the Lower East Side, Herbert was raised in a small town in Pennsylvania.
He went to work as a CPA in New York for several years until he relocated to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania joining the textile firm Milco Industries where he worked over forty years functioning as President, COO, CEO for the last ten. A natural born industrial engineer, Herb appreciated the newest innovations and enjoyed exploring the world of computer technology.
Growing up in Pennsylvania, he developed an early love for the outdoors. He was dedicated to scouting earning the rank of Eagle Scout and honored with a Silver Beaver Award. In 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army. A graduate of Penn State University, he was a proud member and President of Phi Sigma Delta fraternity, Skull and Bones, and Blue Key Society.
His community service included the Masons’, Shriner’s and Lion’s Club of which he was President for several years. He received the Chamber of Commerce Young Man of the Year Award. He was a skier, an avid golfer at Frosty Valley Country Club and the Club at Pelican Bay. A lifelong fisherman, he enjoyed trout fishing in small mountain streams and reeled in a one thousand pound record-breaking black marlin on a trip to Panama. Herb embodied the American Dream; he loved his country, his family, his many friends and celebrating with them.
In 1948 he married the love of his life Matty Arditti, of Paris, France. He is survived by his wife, his daughter Jeanne Fabrikant of Vermont and his son Nathan Hasson of Boston; his son-in-law Kenneth Fabrikant; two beloved grandsons, Nicholas Fabrikant and Blake Fabrikant.
There will be a celebration of Herb’s life at the Marbella at Pelican Bay on Sunday, May 10th at 4:30 PM following a service in the Chapel of Hope at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
