Jon T. Hayes

Hayes, Jon T. (Terry), 74, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on October 22, 2018. Terry was born in Melrose, MA to Alvie W. (Win) and Viola (Vi) Hayes. He resided in Stoneham, MA, Wolfeboro, NH, and Bonita Springs, FL.

Terry was a graduate of Stoneham High School and earned his Associate’s Degree from The New England Institute. Terry’s warm heart and compassion for others enabled him to touch many lives. He proudly served his country in the 126th Battalion of the National Guard. As a funeral director, he made a living providing comfort and support to grieving families. He was also active in the community during his career and into his retirement. As a member of the First Congregational Church in Stoneham, he served as a church moderator and deacon for many years. He was the past President of the Stoneham Jaycees, Chairperson of Northeast Soapbox Derby Race, and served on Stoneham’s Conservation Commission. Terry was also a member and Chairman of the Unicorn Recreation Commission, Worshipful Master of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge in Wolfeboro, and a longtime member of the Bonita Springs Elks Lodge serving as a trustee, member of the House Committee, and treasurer.

Predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Helen E. (Bears) Hayes, Terry also leaves his loving children, his son Christopher J. Hayes and his fiancé Julie Pozzessere of Worcester, MA, and his daughter Jacqueline E. H. Grava and her husband Damian Grava of Seattle, WA, as well as his granddaughter Iris Grava, the apple of his eye. Terry also leaves behind his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Terry loved his New England sports teams, being out on his boat, and spending time with his family and friends. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the Bonita Springs Elks Lodge on Saturday, November 17, 2018. A gathering for family and friends in New England will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children and to the American Cancer Society.
