Leandro Noel Gonzalez, 88, of Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2020. A beloved father and grandfather, Noel was deeply committed to his family and friends, who will miss him dearly.
Noel was born November 29, 1931 in Havana, Cuba. He was educated at the Colegio Academia Pitman in Havana, where he studied business administration. He worked for many years running the parts offices of the Lone Star Cement Company, located in his hometown of Mariel, Cuba.
Noel and his family emigrated to the United States in 1965 during the Carmarioca Boatlift. Upon his arrival, he and his extended family settled in Naples, where they began a new chapter of their lives. There, he, his brothers and a dear family friend founded and co-owned ONOA Painting Company. After dissolving the company, he became a longtime employee of BCG Builders. A master craftsman, Noel had a passion for working with his hands. Over the years, he built homes that sheltered families, bassinets that lulled his children to sleep, and even a sailboat he sailed in Cuba. In his youth, he also enjoyed photography, taking and developing his own photos.
He is survived by his daughter, Aracelis Gonzalez Asendorf; his son, Noel Gonzalez; his grandchildren, Alexa Asendorf (Eric Sellers), Janelle Bass (Noel Bass), Jacob Gonzalez, Cord Asendorf, and Janessa Gonzalez; three great-grandchildren, Calvin Bass, Alice Bass and Charles Bass; his brother, Abel Gonzalez; his sister, Michelle Acosta; as well as many members of his beloved extended family. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 62 years, Aracelis Gonzalez, his son, David Gonzalez, and his son-in-law, Alan Asendorf.
