Lois was born on November 15, 1938 to Sylvia and Alexander Morris in Brooklyn, NY. She passed away at Avow Hospice on December 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She attended Midwood HS in Brooklyn and Brooklyn College. She received a Master’s degree in Speech Pathology at Georgia State University.
Lois was married to Dr Lawrence Cohen for 63 years. They met while working in a summer camp in NY (remember Dirty Dancing?). She was extremely proud of her two sons Mitchell (Susan) and Dr. Bruce (Elizabeth) and their two wonderful spouses.
Lois led a very active life. She taught first grade in Chicago; was an investigative reporter for an Atlanta TV station; and was a consumer advocate for an Atlanta radio station. She was a docent at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. She also was on the board of directors of the Jewish Home in Atlanta, board of directors of Senior Citizens in Atlanta, delivered Meals on Wheels and read to the blind in Naples. Lois was an avid golfer, with a hole in one to her credit. Her passion for photography and travel took to her to six continents.
Lois doted on her five grandchildren: Alex (Connor), Josh (Chandler), Jake, Rebecca (Chris) and Billy.
Most of all, Lois was a survivor. She survived ovarian cancer and two separate breast cancers. She was in the throes of dementia care until she suffered two strokes leading to her passing.
There will be a family graveside service and a memorial service for her friends and family in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice in Lois’ name.
