She passed away on January 9, 2026, in Naples, FL where she lived for the last five years.
Lola was born in Maryland, Hanover, Jamaica, to Norah and Isaiah Dehaney on July 17, 1927. She grew up attending school in Black River in St. Elizabeth Parish. Lola was married to Victor George Lettman, the love of her life for over 50 years. She pursued a career in nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse at Kingston Public Hospital in Jamaica before migrating to the United States in 1967. She dedicated 40 years of her life to nursing serving patients at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL, Oak Forest Hospital, and South Suburban Hospital, respectively.
Lola was a remarkable woman. She enjoyed being around people, sharing her wisdom and helping others. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Her face would light up with joy whenever they visited her. She also had a passion for music, being an accomplished pianist who loved to sing. One of her favorite hobbies was crocheting scarves, hats, and blankets for her loved ones. In her earlier years, she was an avid horse racing fan and enjoyed trips to the casino. She also delighted in playing bingo and attending chair yoga classes with her friends at Discovery Village.
A devoted member of the United Christian Church in Country Clubs, IL. Lola's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She believed in the Lord and lived with a sense of purpose guided by his faith. Lola's big heart and generous spirit were evident in the assistance she offered to fellow Jamaicans who were new to this country. She was an active member of JAHCAP (Jamaican Association for Healthcare Professionals), an organization providing scholarships and helping underserved communities. She went out of her way to help anyone in need, providing support and guidance in any way she could.
While we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the wonderful life she lived and the countless lives she touched. Lola's legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in our hearts forever. She is going home after a life well lived.
