Marilyn was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Benjamin and Kathryn Sparks, on March 23, 1941. She grew up in Jersey City and later moved with her parents to Clark, NJ. She married the love of her life, James “Jim” Day, on July 2, 1966. They lived and raised their three children in Colts Neck, NJ. There, Marilyn made lifelong friendships playing bridge and tennis, and as an active member of the local Women’s Club.
After retirement, Marilyn and Jim left New Jersey for sunnier skies in Naples, Florida, and never looked back. Naples had won her heart. She made Collier’s Reserve Country Club her home and its members and staff her family. She loved golf, shopping, and lunches with dear friends. Perhaps most of all, she loved hosting her family and spoiling her grandchildren. The 15th hole at Collier’s, where their home overlooked, will always live in our hearts and memories as a symbol of the happiest times of her life.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Kathryn Sparks, and her husband, James Day.
Marilyn is survived by her children, James Day Jr, Pamela Day and Kathryn Day, her son-in-law Syed Naqvi, and her grandchildren, Natalie, Lily and Eva Naqvi and James III and Gracie Day.
A Celebration of Life mass will take place at 11:00am on Monday, January 20, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist, located at 625 111th Ave. N., Naples, Fl 34110. A reception will follow at Collier’s Reserve Country Club.
