Raymond was born in Newport, Kentucky on April 13, 1925 to the late Frederick Charles Pfister and Goldie Furnish Pfister. They moved to Ft. Thomas Kentucky in 1931, where he spent the rest of his young life. He attended the Ruth Moyer grade school and then Highlands High School. He left there his senior year and under the accelerated program studied Pre-med at the University of Cincinnati. Next he attended the college of Medicine in Cincinnati and graduated in 1948. He married his wife Bobbette Schlenck in 1947 and had four children. Debbie Pfister of Cincinnati, OH, Robyn Pfister Griffin of Naples, FL, Holly Pfister Smith of Ft. Myers, FL, and Michael Pfister of Cincinnati, OH. He has seven grandchildren; Diane Griffin, Timothy Griffin, Michael Pfister Smith MD, Elizabeth Smith, Chase Smith, Tyler Pfister and Holly Pfister. He also has 8 great grandchildren; Ruby Griffin, Wheeler Griffin, Timothy Griffin, Kennedy Griffin, Logan Griffin, Amelia Smith, Cole Smith and Sawyer Smith.
Following his internship at The Christ Hospital, in Cincinnati, he attended Harvard post-graduate school in medicine and completed his residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck surgery at The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He then spent two years in the United States Air Force as a Captain at Sampson Air Force Base in Geneva NY. During that time he was in charge of the Head and Neck surgical department.
After leaving the Air Force he returned to Cincinnati to the private practice of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. He was on the staff at Christ Hospital, Bethesda Hospital and the Children’s Hospital. He was also a Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
In 1973 he and his wife moved to Naples, FL. He held various staff positions at Naples Community Hospital. These included President of the Medical Staff, Chief of Surgery, Chairman Professional Capabilities Committee, Chairman of Credentials Committee, Vice President of Medical Affairs, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Naples Community Hospital. He was a member of the Port Royal Club, Past Commodore of the Naples Yacht Club, Past Commodore of The Sailing Association of Marco Island. Member of Phi Kappa Epsilon and The Pediatric Society, honoree fraternities of medical schools. He was also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Collier County Medical Society, a Diplomate of the American College of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Society. A member of the Thoroughbred Club of Cincinnati, The Keeneland Club of Lexington, KY, a Mason and a Shriner. He was also a member of Trinity by The Cove Church and the American Medical Association.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife Bobbette Pfister, and his brothers Glenn Pfister, MD and Howard Pfister, MD. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and sister Loraine Eppler of Baltimore, MD.
