Robert James Updaw

Robert James Updaw, age 78, of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  He is preceded in death by loving parents, his mother, Roberta Eileen Updaw, and his father, Frank Edward Updaw. 

Robert, fondly known as Bob,  grew up in Ontario, New York. He attended Ontario High School and Kent State University consecutively. Growing up on Ontario Golf and Country Club, Bob found his passion for the sport at a young age. It was also at the Ontario Golf Course where he met the love of his life and lifelong partner, Ann, his wife of 54 years.

Bob had a prosperous career at Deloitte, initially starting as a staff accountant out of college at the former Haskins & Sells as a CPA in the Accounting Department. He transitioned to consulting and made partner in 1983, where he went on to grow and run various health care divisions across the country. He retired in 2008 and rekindled his love for the game of golf, watching sports, traveling, and spending quality family time with his wife, kids, and beloved grandchildren. His devotion and love for his family knew no bounds.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Ann Marie Updaw, his children, Dr. Robert James Updaw II (Dr. Alison Fletcher) and Karen Updaw Thorpe (Daniel Thorpe); grandchildren, Daniel Thorpe II, James Updaw, and Alyssa Thorpe; and his sister, Maryann Updaw Straube (David Straube); and niece and nephew Dr. Jennifer Straube and Kyle Straube.

Bob’s gentle, kind, and loving personality will be greatly missed.

The Funeral Mass will be at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 475 9th Avenue South, Naples, Florida on November 8th at 11 a.m.. There will be a Celebration of Bob’s Life to follow at Tiburon Golf Club, 2620 Tiburon Drive, Naples, FL from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m..
