He was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on July 27, 1940, to the late Emma (Ruyts) and Herbert Ebenhoeh, and grew up on his mother’s farm in Indiantown, Michigan. He attended the Indiantown school from elementary through middle school and then Saginaw High School, where he graduated.
On a blind date in 1959, he met the love of his life, MaryAnn Ruppel, whom he married on September 24, 1960.
Ron was a tireless worker. He retired from a 30-year career as a Superintendent at General Motors in 1989, and followed that with a 27-year career as Water Superintendent of the Reese/Blumfield Water Authority, from which he retired in 2017. From 1958 to 1963 he was also a member of the U.S. Army National Guard, specializing as a sharp-shooter.
Work hard/Play hard…Ron loved entertaining. In the Ebenhoeh household, there was a steady supply of friends and family popping-in to share a cold beer, grilled brats, vibrant conversation, and if they stayed long enough, possibly a game of euchre.
Ron is survived by his wife of 62 years, MaryAnn; and three of his children: Ron Ebenhoeh Jr. of Chippawa Lake, Michigan; Jennifer (Ebenhoeh) Bernthal of Palmetto, Florida; Terrie (Ebenhoeh) Ham and Paul Koester of Frankenmuth, Michigan. His son, Todd Ebenhoeh, predeceased him in 2021. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Kyle Ebenhoeh, Brooke Ebenhoeh; Jennifer A Ebenhoeh, Ashton Ebenhoeh; Brenden Bernthal, Justen Bernthal; Kristen Ham, Emmily Ham, Rebecca (Ham) and Saif Ataya, Douglas Ham III and Ashley (Sabourin) Ham. He is also survived by his three siblings, Mary (Ebenhoeh) Kern of St. Charles; Gerald (Jerry) and Tam (Trudeau) Ebenhoeh of Frankenmuth; George and Connie (Papadopoulos) Ebenhoeh of Charlevoix, Michigan; eight Great-Grand Children, and hundreds of friends in the Saginaw, Reese, Frankenmuth and Naples areas.
The family invites all who knew and loved Ron to join us for an open house Celebration of Life on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 3-7pm at the Bavarian Inn Lodge (River Room), 1 Covered Bridge Ln, Frankenmuth, MI 48734.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Ron’s hard work and an amazing work ethic that allowed him to excel in the automotive and skilled trades industries without a college degree, the family asks you make a donation to the Michigan Center for Construction Education and Research/Greater Michigan Construction Academy—a not-for-profit skilled-trades academy with campus’ throughout greater Michigan. Go to https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/386680405?schemaorg and click on the blue “Donate” button. You may send the “Recipient email” to his daughter Jennifer’s email address, “[email protected]" which will alert the family of your donation, but not the amount. You may also send a check directly to the administrative office of the GMCA at 7730 W WACKERLY ST, Midland MI 48642-7434, or bring to the Celebration of Life.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hodgesfhatnaplesmg.com for the Ebenhoeh family.
