
Sally was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 2, 1929 to Dorothy and John Harvey Ashbaugh. Dorothy died as a result of childbirth and several years later John Harvey married Elsie Hobday who took over mothering duties.
Sally came to Mansfield, OH in 1942 with her family. She graduated from Emma Willard School in Troy, NY in 1947 and from Brown University in Providence, RI in 1951. Sally spent the summer of 1950 as a Set Designer for a summer stock theater in Wickford, RI.
After college Sally worked for Mansfield “Smart Shopper” creating display ads and writing a column, and later for the Mansfield News Journal where she was responsible for the production of Special Advertising Editions and their editorial content.
Sally married C. Eugene Goin on Oct. 9, 1954. She loved gardening, flower arranging, reading, horseback riding, skiing, computer-generator graphic designing, photography and fixing things.
Sally enjoyed many activities including being a Girl Scout troop leader for Mansfield’s only mounted troop. She was the past president of Community Players (a forerunner of The Playhouse), Past President of Mansfield Garden Club and Life Member of Garden Club of Ohio, Past President of Flower Arrangers Club, Past Director of Mansfield Memorial Homes, Past Director of The Mansfield-Richland County Humane Society, Past Director and Landscape Chairman for Lugano Condominium in Naples, FL, Member of Westbrook Country Club, Mansfield Art Center and Kingwood Center. Sally was an avid gardener and flower arranger and she also enjoyed arranging flowers at Kingswood Center. One of her pet projects for many years was the Mansfield Garden Club’s garden in Central Park.
Sally is survived by four children and six grandchildren; David, Sam and Noah; Cecilia Margaret; Michael (Kristen) and Sarah, Rebekah, Faith and Josiah; and Jeffrey (the late Marilyn).
