Sean was born at the tail end of a long cold winter in Denver. The day he was born, spring warmed the land, literally and figuratively. Sean was our first experience with a child who says “watch me!” and he gave us so much to watch through the years, from his very talented artwork to his academic achievements and most of all being a reliable and kind big brother.
Since they were born we have kept a journal for each of our children, recording interesting or funny things they say or their milestones, just everyday things we want to remember. Our last entry in Sean’s, around Thanksgiving, was about how much we enjoyed our sporadic deep conversations on history, politics, philosophy and literature. He was deep thinking, creative fiercely merit minded. He enjoyed the challenge of being surrounded by those academically or athletically superior because it presented motivation and a learning experience. He was in his senior year at Aubrey Rogers High School and he took up a brand new sport, lacrosse, and dove headlong into it, practicing outside every evening and sometimes that is where we would have our discussions, having a toss in the yard.
He loved his family, his teammates, his pets, his friends, and every new experience that came his way. He loved football and the statistics and was always quizzing family about different records and stats. But Sean’s first love was playing basketball, and he was always up for a game of one-on-one or “21” with his dad and brother, going to Vineyards Community Park to play full-court with his friends, or simply practicing his dribbling in the driveway or garage.
Now he and his big brother and best friend from birth are reunited. He is also reunited with his very dear friend, the late McCauley Ronninger, and his Grammy and Aunt who loved him dearly and always thought he was “brilliant.” Heaven has a new angel, a soldier who will watch over his three younger siblings.
He is survived by his mother, father, two sisters and brother, Grandpa, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11AM at St. William Catholic Church.
