Ulysses Mitchell Jr. was born on December 9, 1955 in Monticello, Florida to the late Ulysses Mitchell Sr. and Amy Mitchell. His family affectionately called him Jr., but his friends and co-workers called him Mitch. The family later moved to Copeland, FL. Ulysses attended and graduated from Everglades High School and attended college in Tampa, FL. The family moved to Naples where Ulysses resided until he was called home to be with the Lord on October 20, 2023.
Ulysses worked as a graphic t-shirt artist in Naples and later at River Park Community Center as a counselor. He loved working and mentoring children. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ as his savior early in life. He was former director of the choir and played the piano and organ.
Although Ulysses was an introverted person, God gifted him with numerous talents. He was an artist as well as a karate instructor. All of his talents were self-taught. He was quiet among his family, but with strangers and friends he would have conversations that never seemed to end.
He leaves to mourn his death sisters: Deborah Mitchell (Orlando, FL), Mable Adkins, and Vanessa Mitchell (Naples, FL) and brother Samuel Mitchell (Honolulu, HI). A host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and co-workers. He will be dearly missed.
Private family services were held at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
