He was born in Mamaroneck, NY and resided in NY until he and his wife moved to Naples in 1982 when he closed his upholstery business.
After high school, Victor served in the US Navy during WWII. He was in 9 battles while serving on the USS Indianapolis. His duties on the ship included keeping the captain's log. He was on the ship when she delivered the components for the atomic bomb. Upon their voyage back to Leyte, the ship was sunk. Of the 1196 on board, he was one of the 317 who survived sharks and 5 nights in the water. Over the years, Vic spoke at schools, civic meetings and even to navy divers about his ordeal. Some of his memorabilia is located at the Naples Military Museum.
After the war, he married Dorothy, and was her loving husband for 68 1/2 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Bonnie and two sons, Bill and Barry. Victor had 5 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters.
Victor loved to sing and entertain. Last summer at the USS Indianapolis survivors reunion, he entertained the audience in a tribute to the survivors. He had been one of the members of the band aboard ship. He performed at church variety shows in Naples. He also enjoyed playing golf and boating. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St Williams. Of late his passion was bridge and winning at bingo.
He was a kind, gentle man who always had a smile on his face. He will be missed.
