Bill was born July 30, 1947 in Iowa City, Iowa to Cecil and Corrine Meyers. Bill was a man of faith with a BIG heart that unfortunately gave out too soon. Bill loved his family and traveling the world, capturing the beauty of all the places he visited with his camera(s). One of his greatest joys was sharing his passion for photography with family and friends. We are grateful for the endless memories (and slideshows) he leaves behind! “Simplify, Isolate and Define” was Bill’s philosophy, not only for how he approached his photography, but how he approached his life as a father, husband, businessman, and entrepreneur.
Bill grew up in Duluth, MN, graduated from Duluth East High School, and studied accounting at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Soon after graduating, Bill started his CPA career with Arthur Anderson in Minneapolis. Over the next two decades, Bill and his brother Bob Meyers worked side by side in many business ventures. Together they founded Meyers & Meyers CPA firm and MicroMation, Inc. Four years later the two purchased Minnesota Clay. One of Bill’s proudest personal and professional moments was passing this business on to his son Michael who still successfully runs the company today with his wife Liz. In the early 90’s Bill became a part of a turnaround consulting group that worked to restructure companies as they worked through bankruptcy. All of Bill’s professional accomplishments are too numerous to list, but additional highlights include CFO of Metro Systems Furniture, Director of Accounting and Data Processing for Bartley Lindsay, and Interim General Manager of the Minneapolis Golf Club.
Bill had two great loves of his life. In 1971, Bill married his first wife Karen Helander. They raised their two children, Michael and Michelle, in Plymouth, MN until Karen succumbed to cancer in 1999. In 2002, it was love at first sight when Bill was introduced to his second wife Martha Robertson at the Minneapolis Golf Club. They met in April and were married four months later on August 21, 2002. Together, they traveled the world, visiting over 60 states and countries in their 21-year marriage. Bill and Martha moved to Naples, Florida where they have enjoyed being long time members at the Imperial Golf Club.
Bill was a devoted husband, dedicated father and loving grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren. He loved to cook with them, swim with them and most of all eat with them. Bill loved food. He also loved the Minnesota Vikings (Skol Vikes!), labeling EVERYTHING, and was always the first to get the latest and greatest tech gadgets.
Bill was a brilliant man, always willing to share his knowledge of finance, business, photography, cars and more. One of his many gifts was mentoring others in major business decisions, photography, or just life. Bill had a way of providing guidance and love to so many who looked up to him.
