Lelia Jewell “Gram” Carmichael, 95, of Nashville, IN, has joined our Heavenly Father on October 13, 2010 from the home of her daughter, Sheila Lucas. Mrs. Carmichael was born on October 29, 1914 in Jackson County, IN. She is the daughter of Howard and Alice (Phillips) Waggoner. She married Kenneth Carmichael on April 7, 1934. Kenneth preceded her in death on May 14, 1982. She was the same age upon her death as her Great-grandfather who served in the Civil War. Mrs. Carmichael was an employee of Arvin Industries as well as a homemaker and devout member of Parkview Church of the Nazarene. In retirement Jewell became active in Parkview Quilters club, Parkview Prime Timers and Homemaker’s Club of Brown County. She created and organized crafts for nursing home residents, volunteered time and crafts to her granddaughter’s elementary classroom. Jewell was a 4-H club leader for six years while raising her daughters and in later years was elected to the first 4-H council in Brown County. She sat on the 4-H council for eight years and was instrumental in policy making as well as fundraising. She spent many hours of love growing and cultivating her many floral gardens. Jewell passed on this love and vast knowledge of flowers to her family and friends. Her love and devotion to her community will be missed. She is survived by a sister, Wanita Manuel of Greenwood, IN; two daughters, Phyllis Lucas, husband Edgar Lucas of Nashville, IN and Sheila Lucas, husband Jack Lucas of Nashville, IN. Seven grandchildren: Teresa Harden, Stan Lucas, Madeline Lucas, Michelle Peters (Brian), J.D. Lucas (Claudia), Suzette Sizemore (fiancé Jeff Swain), and Aimee Browning (Rick). Ten great-grandchildren: Ryan (Jessica), Aaron, Taylor, Amanda, Lucas, Jared, Becca, Danielle, Chad, and Olivia; three great great Grandchildren: Cash, Audrie, and Emma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 5 sisters and 4 brothers. A service of memory and celebration of her life will be held at Parkview Church of the Nazarene; 1750 State Road 46 East, on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Gary Williamson presiding. Viewing hours will be on Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 pm & Monday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Mrs. Carmichael will be laid to rest beside her husband Kenneth at the Christiansburg Cemetery. Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
