Dennis Hossley Groome III died peacefully after a brief illness on January 19, 2017. He was born in Jennings, LA on July 12, 1941 and resided in Metairie for the majority of his life. A graduate of St. Aloysius High School and Louisiana State University at New Orleans, he enjoyed a long distinguished career in Pharmaceutical Sales. His avid interest in HAM radios and communication led to his co-founding of New Orleans Car Telephone, an early leader in the cellular communication industry. Dennis’ greatest devotion, after his family, was the Boy Scouts of America. Introduced as a toddler to scouting by his late Uncle, CW “Bud” Tacke of Vicksburg, MS Troop 7, he lived a lifetime devotion to Scouting. Dennis achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a proud recipient of the Silver Beaver. He shared his time and knowledge with boys and girls through many roles with BSA Troop 231, Explorer Posts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and V-Bar Scout Reservation. Many have fond memories of hiking on the Appalachian Trail with him. In his retirement he found great pleasure in his involvement cooking at St. Philip Neri for the Men’s Club, May Fair and the homeless. Preceded in death by his parents Dr. Dennis Hossley Groome Jr. and Florence Kenyon Groome and his son-in-law Eddie Guevara, he is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years Mardel Earhart Groome and his children Dennis H. Groome IV (Lori), Michelle Groome Guevara Odenwald (Paul) and Mardelle Groome Stiegler (Mike). Also survived by his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren Dennis H. Groome V, Gabrielle Levron (Gary), Ian Guevara, Lynne Odenwald, Lydia Odenwald, Lilly Odenwald, Michael Stiegler Jr., Karen Stiegler, Skylar Levron and Sydney Levron.
