Adelaide Hattier Benoit passed on to her eternal life on August 21, 2023, at Sunrise Senior Living in Metairie, Louisiana. She was 94. Adelaide was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was a longtime resident of Metairie. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School on Canal Street, where she was President of the Class of 1946 and a trumpeter in the band. She then attended Loyola University, Music School where she met the love of her life, Robert Benoit, Sr., who predeceased her in 1990. Adelaide and Bob had five children: the late Robert Benoit, Jr. (Theresa), Donna Defourneaux (Michael), Gary Benoit (Lydia), Julie Moreau (Jack), and Peggy Viera (the late James Viera). Adelaide was a devout Catholic, and was blessed to have many grandchildren. She served as a Library Clerk for Marie Riviere Elementary School in Metairie, and as a Minute Clerk for the Social Security Administration Hearings Office in New Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: George Hattier, Jr., John Hattier, and Robert Hattier.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 835 Melody Drive in Metairie, from 11:00a.m. until 1:00p.m., followed by a Mass at 1:00p.m. Interment will be in Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum.
