Al, known to many as “Uncle Al” or “Coach”, was a colorful character who lived an extraordinary life. Growing up poor and spending most of his childhood in an orphanage with very minimal education, he still successfully created the crawfish empire that lasted decades. He attended Warren Easton High School and would often joke about how he went to FMU (French Market University). He enjoyed his days in the Navy and later became a man of many talents.
He took up boxing as a young boy. He later began his legacy when he started selling produce, then began attracting people to crawfish. His business got so big that he had to buy an entire street block to run his operation. People would line up down and around the block to buy his seafood. He was a songwriter, record producer and also ran for Senate (#55). He mentored thousands of people during their lives, from being a sponsor of addiction, to being a youth sports coach at Johnny Bright Playground, where he found most of his joy.
He was a proud and devout Catholic who very seldom missed a Sunday at church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially during the holidays. He loved entertaining people and had such a unique way of doing so.
“Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure.” – Psalm 16:9
