Alfred graduated from Jesuit High School and Tulane University. He spent three years in the Army, with twenty months stationed in Tokyo.
He was interested in all the major sports in New Orleans. Like many, he followed the Saints more closely. Alfred was a fan of classical music and regularly attended the New Orleans Symphony and opera. After thirty years with the Sewerage and Water Board, he retired.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Ohlmeyer Spansel and John Anthony Spansel, Sr. and his brother, John Anthony Spansel, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Marie Massimini Spansel; his brother, Michael Spansel (Brenda); and many nephews and nieces.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Tuesday, September 16, 2024 at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
