Anita’s deep love for dogs, particularly Schipperkes, inspired her and her husband, Dan, to run a dog-training service. A passionate traveler, she explored countries such as China, France, Germany, Egypt, England, Holland, Thailand, Turkey, and Switzerland. As a dedicated RN, she served at Charity Hospital and various medical offices in New Orleans and Metairie after she graduated from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing. She was also an avid reader and devoted book collector.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Dan Watsky, and her parents, Ruby and Walter Lambert.
She is survived by her daughter, Joelle Halpern (Edward); sister, Brenda Zimmerman (Bill); and grandchildren Charlotte and Hannah Halpern.
The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers and nurses at Summerhouse Vista Shores and Hospice Specialists of Louisiana, Elizabeth Molina (RN), Paulette Jackson, Bill and Karen DeAngelis, and Judy Kangas.
There will be a graveside service at Hebrew Rest Cemetery #3, 2101 Pelopidas St, New Orleans, LA 70122, on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rabbi David Gerber.
Please wear something red, Anita’s favorite color. Anita herself requested no “mourner’s black” at her funeral.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of former GNO Chapter President, Dan Watsky.
