Anna G. Philibert passed away with family at her bedside on Monday, December 27, 2021 at the age of 91 from complications of a stroke. Anna was born in New Orleans, LA and lived in Shreveport, LA and Mobile, AL for her husband’s job before they moved to Metairie, LA. She most recently resided in Kenner, LA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.R. “Bunny” Philibert; son, Donald Lawrence Philibert; parents Christopher Everett Giveans and Ester Gilbert Giveans; sisters Margurite Jicka, Bernadette Grimaldi, Ester Facio, Joyce Dawsey and Patricia Trahan; brothers Christopher Giveans, Joseph Giveans and Gilbert Giveans. She is survived by her daughters Sue Ann “Suzy” Schwabe (Gary) and Cynthia “Cindy” Taylor (Mark); grandchildren Mark Scott Taylor (Jennifer) and April Taylor Sanchez (Michael); step granddaughter Kerrie Schwabe Warren (Michael); six great-grandchildren Victoria and Michael Taylor; Andrew, Catherine, Gabrielle, and Joseph Sanchez and two step great-grandchildren, Zachary Bermond and Bryce Warren.
Anna loved playing cards, going to the Fairgrounds, the Greyhound races and casinos. For many years she played cards multiple times a week with groups of old friends who liked to mix it up around a card table. She was a regular at the card tables at Treasure Chest but didn’t miss any opportunity to make a trip to the Gulf Coast casinos. One bucket list item she did not achieve was her dream of winning the lottery, buying a tour bus and visiting casinos across the U.S. She was a member of the Golden Agers and AARP.
It is an understatement to say Anna, Ne-Ne to her grandchildren and fondly nicknamed “Red”, was an extrovert and quite a character who always made her presence known. She dearly loved her family and did not want to be left out of any family functions. She was always extremely generous and enjoyed giving crazy gifts. She also loved giving her great grandchildren Eskimo kisses and “rides” on her rollator.
Private services were held on Friday, December 31, 2021 with interment in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
