Mr. Anthony Joseph Almerico Jr. “Tony” passed away the morning of January 24, 2025, peacefully and surrounded by family at his home in Chalmette. Tony was born to Anthony Joseph Almerico Sr. and Mercedes Louise Barrau on October 6, 1945 in New Orleans. Tony served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, in the Fourth Infantry Division’s Second Battalion, Ninth Field Artillery “The Mighty Ninth” in Pleiku Central Highlands, Vietnam. After being wounded in multiple combat missions, PVT Tony Almerico was awarded a Purple Heart by President Richard Nixon in 1970. After his honorable service, Tony returned to New Orleans, where he met “his bride and the love of his life” the former Ms. Jeanne Marie Mouney. He went on to serve his community by owning multiple small businesses. Tony delighted in time spent with family, relaxing at his camp in Lacombe, visiting the Fairgrounds, eating gumbo with a fork, and indulging in sweets. His greatest enjoyment was telling family and friends his larger-than-life stories. Tony was loved by so many and remembered by all as a caring and proud father, husband, and Soldier. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; his two adoring children, Anthony Michael Almerico (Katy Evans) and Rachel Marie Almerico (George Corcoran); his precious grandchild “that boy” Canyon Parker Corcoran; his two sisters, Antoinette “Tonia” Almerico Dauterive and Yolanda “Yolie” Almerico Genovese; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled soon.
