Berna Anna LeCron Bond Schambach, at the age of 91, left this world to join her Heavenly Father on December 27, 2021. Always strong in her faith, Berna was born on July 11, 1930, to the Rev. Michael Robert LeCron and Bernadine Kinsler LeCron, who raised her and all their children in the Lutheran faith. Berna was predeceased by her parents, and by her four siblings: Vida Ruth LeCron Laporte, Michael Robert LeCron, John David LeCron, and Janice Marie LeCron Lewis. Berna was married to Millard Oswald Bond, who predeceased her in 1958. Berna and Millard had two children: Rebecca (Becky) Ann Bond Young and Bill Matthew Bond. Bill also predeceased her in 2003. She married Edmond Andrew Schambach in 1970 and became the stepmother of David Schambach (Stacy), Brenda Schambach Jones (Rhea), and Steven Wayne Schambach (Liz). Steven also predeceased her in 2018. She was the proud grandmother of Grayson Young (Connor), and Kathryn Young Wetekamm (Kale), and Andrew Jones, Jeni Jones and Kyle Schambach. She was also the very proud great- grandmother of Anna Kathryn Wetekamm and William Frederick Wetekamm. Berna is also survived by loving nieces and nephews, a cousin Olive Kinsler Gorman, and dear friends.
Berna loved her Lord and served as a VBS Teacher and Sunday School teacher. She worked as a secretary for Our Savior Lutheran Church for many years and then went on to volunteer at both Our Savior and St. John Lutheran Churches in New Orleans and then at St. Paul in Hammond. She asked everyone she met if they knew their Savior, Jesus. She was very active in the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League) at Our Savior, St. John and St. Paul. Berna began her married life with Millard in Columbia, Mississippi. When Millard died suddenly at age 36, Berna returned to New Orleans and devoted herself to raising her two young children, and, later, her step-children.
In all of her life and deeds, Berna gave glory to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and set an example of faithfulness and goodness for her family and friends. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hammond, LA, (stpaulhammond.org), the LWLM (lwml.org), or to the Lutheran Hour Ministries (lhm.org)
