Bernadette Cecile Murphy passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. She was 91 years old. Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil J. Murphy and Barbara Lillian Curry Murphy; sisters, Barbara Rizzo (Nick), Marie Nelson (Jack), Kathleen Garvey; and brother, Cecil J. Murphy, Jr. She is survived by three siblings, Patricia Garvey (Richard), James Murphy (Josephine), William Murphy, brother-in-law, Don Garvey, sister-in-law, Kiku Murphy, and a host of nieces, nephews, and a large, loving family. Bernadette was a longtime employee of Commercial Union Insurance Company and Eustis Insurance. She was a member and past president of the Insurance Women of Greater New Orleans, and an officer of the St. Alphonsus Credit Union. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 1:00PM. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00AM.
