Camille "Virginia" Porea Rivers

She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, James Rivers; her two daughters, Countess Rivers and Wanda Rivers; her sister, Joy Gray; her brother, Matthew Sharper (Valerie); sisters-in-law, Betty Merrill, Ella Rivers, and Sandra Rivers; her loving nephew, Roland Gray, Jr.; her niece, Alice G. Carter; her Godchildren, Daris Scott and Andrella Jones; and her good friends, Valerie Polk and Robert Bell. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond Porea and Alice Whitfield Sharper and her three sisters, Bertha Morgan, Julia Dickerson, and Odessa James.

Camille was born in St. Francisville, Louisiana on January 3, 1941. She was the owner and operator of Garden District Academy in New Orleans for 26 years.

The family extends their deep gratitude and appreciation for the outpouring of prayers, love, and support they have received through this difficult time.

Relatives, friends, and former students are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 1:00PM. The interment will follow the service at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
