She was always the “go-to” person for wedding veils, prom dresses, drapes and overall fashion and home decorating ideas. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Christopher the Martyr Catholic Church in Metairie and was active in in every way she could be- she ministered to the sick and elderly, she led the Cub and Girl Scout parades and made all the costumes. She helped to host the St. Joseph Alters, and was active with the St. Christopher CYO. She was a fixture at many of the masses and novenas, not just at St. Christopher, but throughout the archdiocese. She was a truly active layperson for our faith community. Carey enjoyed a long career in women’s fashion as a buyer, sales manager, and personal shopper at several local establishments, including Mignon Faget, Village Lady, Maison Blanche, Macy’s, House of Broel, Krauss, Dillard’s and others. She was a member of the Alpha Region, New Orleans Chapter of the Fashion Group of America. She enjoyed gardening, attending mass and novenas, Mardi Gras costuming with her family and sharing parades with her cousin Wendy Whittaker (Scott), and family vacations.
