Carol Ann Serio Ruf, of Jefferson, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023, after a brief illness, surrounded by family and friends. She was 83. She was a retired Jefferson Parish elementary teacher and school-based administrator. She was born May 3, 1940, in Winnsboro, Louisiana.

She was a 1958 graduate of East Jefferson High School, a 1962 graduate in the first class of Louisiana State University at New Orleans with a BA in Education, a 1978 graduate of Tulane University with a MA in Education and certifications in Administration and Supervision and Curriculum, and she completed 30 post-graduate hours in Education from Tulane University and UNO. She graduated with a certification in Paralegal Studies from UNO in 1989. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, and Nereids.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents Sam Serio and Minnie Vera Sikes Serio, her sister Dolores Serio Brown, her brother John Russell Serio, and her long-time friend and former spouse Charles R. Ruf.

She is survived by her daughter Karen Ruf Mumford (David), her grandchildren Ariel Chaisson and Joshua Mumford, her nieces Melissa Serio Sylvester and Allison Serio, her nephew Jason Serio, her great niece Chloe Sylvester, her great nephew Milo Sylvester, and her brother-in-law Steve Brown.

Carol was a loving mother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved to study Egyptian history and astrology, and she loved teaching 4th grade world history and geography. She was a member of several Jefferson Parish Public School System Elementary Social Studies curriculum design committees, and was one of the creators/designers of the inaugural Jefferson Parish Elementary School “Academic Games” for 4th grade Social Studies students. Carol loved her gardens, and she became a devoted LSU football fan.

Carol was laid to rest on December 7, 2023, at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
