

Carolyn Maureen Clawson Prickett, M.D., long-term resident of New Orleans, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones on August 11, 2021. Also known as “Dr. C” and “Mrs. Prickett,” Carolyn was born October 21, 1931 in Beirut, Lebanon, Syria to Dr. Marion Don Clawson and Rue Stanford Clawson, both of Clay City, Illinois. She was the widow of Dr. Walter Links Prickett, also a physician. No survivors. Carolyn’s education, professional and life experience was vast. She attended the American Community School in Beirut, Peabody Demonstration School in Nashville, Tennessee, MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois and Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Class of 1957. Her professional experience further includes Internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Residency in Tulane Medicine at Lallie Kemp Charity Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in New Orleans. Licensed by the State of Louisiana. Carolyn spent her entire career, spanning from 1959 to 1997, as a full-time physician at the V.A. Hospital in New Orleans. She was a proud member of the National Association of V.A. Physicians and Dentists, The Orleans Parish Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. All who knew Carolyn knows she dedicated much of her life to serving others, and was active in volunteer groups of New Orleans Museum of Art, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New Orleans Opera Association. She was also the proud contributing member to many organizations, including the Audubon Institute, Friends of City Park, Friends of the Cabildo, The Preservation Resource Center, Louisiana Landmarks Society, The National Trust and other historical societies, local and national societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Best Friends in Utah, the Metropolitan Opera Guild and the local and national branch of the Organ Historical Society. Carolyn was a lifelong Methodist, attending Parker Memorial United Methodist Church, previously on Nashville Ave., and serving as sexton for many years. Carolyn had character of the highest integrity, was witty, positive and direct and an overall joy to be around. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones and no doubt all those who knew her.
Memorial Services will be held between 11:00 a.m. and Noon on August 28, 2021 at Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church, 3900 St Charles Ave, New Orleans, LA 70115, followed by informal reception TBA pending Covid pandemic considerations/developments.
No memorials requested, but if any, Carolyn’s wishes were to send to the local branch of the American Red Cross.
