Catherine L. Dwyer

Catherine LaRocca Dwyer died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the age of 94. She was born August 29, 1928, to the late Salvatore LaRocca and Bernadette Kerner LaRocca of Gretna. She is survived by sons Stephen I. Dwyer (Jennifer VanVrancken) and Gregory A. Dwyer (Debbie), and was Mi Mi to grandchildren Rachel Mantooth (Mark), Jeremy Dwyer (Nicole), Jessica Dwyer, Meaghan Dwyer, Brooke Lee (Tommy), Dayna Whitcombe (Karl), Casey Dwyer (Angie), and Kelley Dwyer. Catherine is also survived by great-grandchildren Emma, John, and Collin Mantooth, Kate Dwyer, London and Laken Lee, and Irwin Dwyer. She also leaves behind former daughter-in-law Nancy Dunphy. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Irwin J. Dwyer and her son Irwin J. Dwyer, Jr. Known for her cooking, especially crawfish bisque, gumbo, and chicken with red gravy always served with fried cauliflower, Catherine was fiercely proud of her family. She appreciated a perfect garden and reading the newspaper from cover to cover every day under the watchful eye of her doted-upon dog Franklin. She worked for the Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters until her retirement. The family would like to thank Passages Hospice and Gerty Richardson’s Caring Hearts Sitting Service, especially Mary Bailey, Monique Crawford, Adele Gooden, Noella “Nita” Stanley, and Daphne Zeno. Services will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00PM followed by a Mass at 2:00PM, celebrated by Rev. Edwin Gros, S.J. Burial will be in All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Southern Missions at www.shsm.org or the Sacred Heart Monastery at poshusa.org, as Catherine was a devoted follower of both.
