Charles A. Mannina, age 85, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Monday August 26, 2024 surrounded by his family. “Charlie” was born on October 10, 1938 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Diana Rainey Mannina and his two daughters, Deborah M. Verlander (Tim) and Donna M. Young (Les). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Grace Young, Katherine Elizabeth Verlander and Timothy Parker Verlander, step granddaughter, Dr. Corinne Young Cloud (Will) and step great granddaughter Colette Elizabeth Cloud. He is also survived by numerous relatives and friends including his “coffee buddies” at Caffé Latte Da.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Mannina and Sarah Clesi Mannina as well as his brothers Michael (Lois) and Frank. Charles graduated from De La Salle High School in 1957 and attended Louisiana State University. He was the longtime owner of Century Credit Plan and Plantation Acceptance Corporation until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the New Orleans Lenders Exchange, Louisiana Independent Finance Association and Treasurer of the Louisiana Motor Vehicle Association. In addition to his finance businesses, he owned and managed several commercial properties in Jefferson Parish.
Charlie was larger than life especially with his car obsession, owning several Rolls Royces and proudly driving them all around town. He reigned as King of the Krewe of Pegasus in 1984 and was a member of several other carnival clubs. Charlie was always the life of the party- usually with a Jack and 7 in hand. He enjoyed his many trips both here and abroad, especially those trips to Las Vegas in the “pumped up” days where he could usually be found at the craps table pressing his luck. He was a friend to all he met but mostly he was the most loving husband to Diana and father to Debbie and Donna, who meant the world to him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 1:00pm. Visitation will be from 11am -1pm. A private interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
