Charles was a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and attended Loyola Law School and Tulane University. At this time, he became a beloved teacher and taught English Literature, Foreign Languages, and History at Promised Land Academy in Braithwaite. During these early years, he became a world traveler enjoying the countries of the European continent. His command of foreign languages were put to good use as he led many tours through many countries and made friends internationally.
His career on the Mississippi River began with Bisso Towboat Company, Inc. He became a state commissioned Crescent River Port Pilot in 1980 and piloted ships along the Mississippi River for decades. He most enjoyed spending time with his fellow river pilots and mentoring the next generation of pilots. His maritime memberships included the Crescent River Port Pilots Association and the International Organization of Masters, Mates, and Pilots.
Through the years he developed a passion for fine art and antiques and became a devoted lover of classical music and opera. He attended the most notable operatic performances around the world. Beyond his other interests, he was also captivated by European architecture and often attended architectural symposiums across the continent. Charles was a man of great character as he was loving, generous, and kind to his family, friends, and to everyone that he met. He was truly a prince among men.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the West Jefferson Medical Center, especially Mr. C.J. Nicholson-Uhl, and the devoted nurses of the Neuro Critical Care Unit for their compassionate care and comfort extended to Charles and the family.
