Clarence Charles Weiser, Jr. passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the age of 84 years unexpectedly while in the hospital. He was the beloved husband for 49 years of Barbara whom he adored and the son of the late Clarence Charles Weiser, Sr. and Mae Barthel Weiser. He was a wonderfully committed father to sons David (wife, April) and Kurt (wife, Angelique). He was a proud grandfather of Madeline Weiser, Savannah Weiser, Arden Weiser, Vincenza Weiser, Ella Short and Noah Short. He was brother to Wayne Weiser (husband of the late, Gayle), brother-in-law to Norbert Dours (husband of the late, Beverly) and Alice Dours Dolese (husband, Rick). He was uncle to Melissa Dours Thompson (husband, David), Randy Dours, Dawn Weiser Gallo (husband, John), Michael Weiser (wife, Sherri), John Adams, Nichole Weiser, Jared Weiser, and Jordan Weiser.
He graduated from Jefferson High School where he had been elected as President of the Student Body. He then studied electrical engineering at Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, Louisiana, and later built a career in sales taking pride in building relationships and serving his customers. Beyond his family, his greatest joy was in serving the churches of which he was a member during his lifetime. As a young adult, while attending St. Matthew U.C.C., he met Reverend Dr. Roland H. Pantermuehl, who made a significant impact in his life by encouraging him to become involved in the life and volunteer work of the church. The first benefit of this experience was to meet his cherished wife while serving as a leader in the youth ministry. During his over three decades of various service at St. Matthew U.C.C., he was a choir member, a Sunday school teacher, a director of Christian Education, a member and eventual president of the Consistory, chairman of a Pastoral Search Committee, and chairman of the Pipe Organ Committee for which he had a particular passion. During this time, he was instrumental in developing the Union Thanksgiving Service involving several congregations in the Carrollton area. Due to the relationship between St. Matthew U.C.C and Covenant Nursing Home on Magazine Street, Clarence served as a member of the Board of Directors of Covenant Nursing home and eventually became vice-president of the Board as well as the chairperson of its renovation and expansion committee.
In 1992, the family moved their church membership to St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church in search of a more robust youth program for his sons. Clarence proceeded to become an involved volunteer member of his new congregation where he taught middle school Sunday school classes and served as an elder on the Session. His favorite service to his new church was as the chairman of the Selley Speaker Series which brought distinguished guest ministers once a year for a special weekend filled with discussion panels, a Sunday school lesson, preaching and a reception.
All who wish to join in the celebration of Clarence’s life are invited to attend his funeral service at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1545 State Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70115, on Thursday, April 21, 2022. Visitation begins at 1:00 with funeral service at 2:00. He will be interned at his beloved church’s columbarium. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honor of his great love of his church to St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church.
