On November 29, 1960, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Darryl Anthony Brickley was born to the late Ella Mae Gallon Brickley and David Brickley, Sr. On Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the age of 64, Darryl peacefully completed his earthly journey and gained his heavenly wings.
From an early age, Darryl accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, beginning a lifelong walk of faith, purpose, and service. He was baptized by the late Reverend Lloyd Antoine Gomez at Greater Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where his love for God took root and blossomed. Over the years, Darryl remained a faithful and devoted servant, joyfully participating in many ministries. He was an active member of the Sunday School Department, served as Church Historian, faithfully sat on the Board of Trustees, and lifted his voice in praise as a member of the Young Adults Choir. His devotion to his church family reflected his steadfast faith and generous heart. A man of strong faith and strength, Darryl prayed earnestly for others and for himself, trusting always in God’s perfect will. He cherished his family and friends dearly, embracing every moment with love, laughter, and gratitude.
Blessed with both intellect and determination, Darryl built a remarkable educational foundation. He was educated by the Orleans Parish Public School System and proudly graduated from Walter L. Cohen Senior High School, Class of 1978. His pursuit of knowledge continued at Delgado Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Data Processing in 1983. Ever striving for excellence, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Sciences from Loyola University of New Orleans in 1992. Most recently, in 2023, through faith and perseverance, he achieved one of his proudest accomplishments of earning a Master of Science Degree in Cybersecurity Management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Darryl’s professional life was as impressive as it was inspiring. Over forty years, he built a reputation as a highly skilled and respected expert in mainframe data storage and cybersecurity engineering. His highly technical abilities, brilliance, integrity, and leadership left an indelible mark on every organization he served. His most recent position was Senior Principal Systems Engineer with Edgewater Federal Solutions in Huntsville, Alabama. Beyond his professional success, Darryl lived life fully and joyfully. His career took him to many places across the country, and through each new experience he deepened his appreciation for so many treasured opportunities.
When Darryl was not working, he found happiness in life’s simple pleasures like shopping, reading, writing, and creating his favorite New Orleans–style cuisine. His kitchen was his happy place, always alive with the smell of good food, the sound of laughter, and the company of loved ones. To his family, he was so much more than a son, brother, uncle, cousin or friend. He was the peacemaker, the chef, comedian and the magnet that brought everyone together. His warmth, humor, infectious laugh, love and generosity will always be remembered. Though Darryl’s earthly presence will be deeply missed, his light will forever shine in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His faith, strength, and compassion will continue to inspire, reminding us that a life lived with love and purpose never truly ends. We take comfort in knowing that he has received his eternal reward and now rests peacefully in the arms of the Lord.
Darryl leaves behind his devoted father, David Brickley Sr.; brothers, David Brickley Jr. (Gerri) and Dwayne Brickley; and sister, Darlene Brickley. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces, Natalie Clayton, Danielle Brickley, Dominique Brickley, Sloane Brickley-Allen (Joseph), and Raquel Brickley; and his godchildren, Antonio Martinez-Lilly and Derrick Johnson. He will be forever remembered by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends, including Antonio McIlwain and his best friend, Trudy Lilly.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Ella Mae Gallon Brickley; his grandparents, Felton Sr. and Clara Mae Gallon, and Reverend Moses and Bertha Brickley; his sister-in-law, Sandra V. Brickley; and his beloved fur babies, PJ and Angel.
