Marie Dolores Holt Maddry died peacefully on Saturday, October 17, 2015 after 93 years of bringing joy to others. Born April 3, 1922, in Metairie, she attended Metairie High School and Charity Hospital School of Nursing before marrying her husband of 48 years, Dr. Edgar Lavelle Maddry, Sr. A longtime resident of Metairie and member of St. Francis Xavier parish, she was a devout Catholic who took comfort in her relationship with God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her eldest child, Edgar Lavelle Maddry, Jr., her brothers, Emmett Jerome Holt and Thomas B. Morris (wife Alta), her sister, Adele Morris Morfy, her parents, Emmett Andrew and May Beatrice St. Ceran Holt, and grandparents, Webster Howard St. Ceran and Josephine Bernier St. Ceran, and William Alexander Holt, Jr. and Annie Claverie Holt.
Dolores loved family, friends, all children, and always had a place for visitors to stay and enjoy her wonderful cooking. She loved gardening, especially her roses, watching birds at her feeders, petting every dog or cat she could, and reading the bridge column. She was a faithful friend, and doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She long waited to rejoin her loved ones in eternity, after a life well lived.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Judith Ann and Henry Wellmann Frantz III, and Adele Marie and Kerry Han; sons and daughters-in-law Emmett Holt Maddry and Deanna Kulla, and Joseph Andrew and Clare Groover Maddry; grandchildren Matthew Holt Frantz (Jeannette Shereda), David Earnest Frantz (Leslie Lowe), Jonathan Maddry Frantz (Susan Casey), Edgar Kulla Maddry, Timothy Andrew Maddry, and Patrick Francis Maddry; great grandchildren Julius Maddry Frantz, Samuel Lavelle Frantz, Avery Grace Frantz, and Henry James Frantz; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank her longtime friend Jack Steltz, loving caregiver Bernice Gregoire Hollins, and the caregivers at Egan Hospice Services and Twin Oaks Nursing and Convalescent Home for their devoted attention.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation from 11 AM-1 PM on Saturday, October 24, followed by the funeral service at 1 PM, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (within Metairie Cemetery).
