A respected authority on child behavior, Don has written more than ten books for parents and teachers on how to work effectively with children, from toddler stage through adolescence. Six of these titles have been translated into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese and many more. After working for medical centers at Louisiana State University and Tulane University, Don opened his own private practice in 1974. AS a child psychologist, he worked with parents and children identifying such issues as academic problems, dyslexia, and learning disabilities.
Don had a love for fishing and spending time at his fishing camp, Don’s Post Time in Delacroix Island. Don also enjoyed building and remodeling old homes by rehabilitating historic architecture. Growing up on Mazant St. in New Orleans, he starred at Bunny Friend Baseball and took great pleasure in watching his grandson play baseball and his granddaughters perform and compete with their dance and cheer teams. He was known by his friends and family for his generosity, willingness to always give someone a helping hand, and his ability to humor those around him.
Don was preceded in death by his father Irvin and his mother Olga Thoele. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Carla Leto, his two sons, Jason and Alan, daughter-in-law Kathy and his grandchildren Trent, Marissa and Kelly, his cousins Dr. Walt and Marilyn Grundy, and many other loved ones.
