Don and I met on a social media platform and upon talking to him for some weeks I realized he was passionate about antiques and old wooden duck decoys in particular. When I first went to go meet him down in lower Barataria I was overwhelmed, literally shocked, by the enormous amount of antiques he possessed. As time when on he introduced me to carvers, collectors and numerous other people in the decoys carving/collecting world. He was passionate about the value, details and businesses that surrounded this art. We talked many nights over the weekly auctions, weekend shows and the carvers who lived in the lower Louisiana regions near Houma. He was never one to withhold information about the carvers he met over his 50+ years of collecting. Anthony Spongia and Alvin Aucoin were his most favorite carvers. Don was a great guy and his knowledge was second to none when it came to traveling to the shows up North. He loved Easton, Maryland, St. Michael's and the Chicago Shows. Buy, sell and trade parking lot shows had him hooked! He wanted to go visit Chincoteague Island and Easton in 2025.  We lost a serious, serious collector of wooden decoys along with a wealth of knowledge in the Sports Art collecting community. His family traditions and employment at Sports Art Inc. have reflected this fact and he will be truly missed by those seeking information about a decoy's origins.This photograph was taken by me of Don in the parking lot in Easton 2024 doing what he loved to do, talking about decoys! I will always be grateful to Don for sharing his vast knowledge of duck decoys with me. Especially those of Louisiana carvers. I will miss our late night phone calls and his stories about everything decoy. Don was the one who convinced me to go to the auction at Pheasant Run outside of Chicago and introduced me to”the hotel room decoy display sale”. A memory I will never forget. Rest in peace my friend.

I met Don when he had his decoy shop in the French Quarter. I always enjoyed talking with him about the wooden decoys he had and collected over the years. My first interest in decoys started at a early age on our family vacations with my dad's friend Dickey Gonzales in Mobile Bay. Dickey's son was a big duck hunter in the late 50's early 60's. Duck hunting became my #1 sport. We moved to Octavia street in 1991 and I met Mr. Charles Frank who lived a few block away from me.  After seeing his collection I joined the LWCCG and started helping out with the auctions. I also met Don's brother Chris who is one of the most talented carver's in Louisiana. Don and I stayed in touch for many years. It was always nice talking with Don. I really appreciated our friendship over the many years. Sending my deepest sympathies to the Weaver family on his passing.

I met Don over 35 years ago. Over the years we became fast friends. We developed a trust and exchanged ideas and opinions We enjoyed many decoys shows and auctions together. I will certainly miss him.

Donnie was my friend for over 45 years. I met him in 1976 at Tony Spongia’s house in Chalmette.    I will miss our 6 AM decoy chats on my way to work in the morning.   He was the most knowledgeable Wildlife art aficionado I ever met.  The Decoy world has suffered a great loss. Godspeed.

Don, aka Don Duck he laughed every time I said his name.  Don was and always will be our best friend. We already miss his knocking  at the door and looking out to see him standing on our porch. I will deeply miss our talks and us just joking around.  Denise already miss cooking for him and making his two ice-cream cones. We had a lot of good times just sitting around. Well I can say a lot but I will save that for when I see you again Don Duck. RIP my friend. Until we meet again.
