Edward Albert Burke

Edward Albert Burke passed away peacefully in his home on October 10, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on April 28, 1947, in New Orleans, LA and was a resident of Kenner, LA. He was the son of the late Thomas E. and Hannah S. Burke.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Thomas E. Burke, Jr, Barbara B. Healy, and Cynthia A. Burke.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia Bares Burke and their children, Melissa M. Burke, Edward A. Burke, Jr (Savannah), and Michael P. Burke (Lisa). He loved being “PawPaw” to Kirsten, Grayson, Evan, and Hayden. Eddie is also survived by his cousins, Sheila Nicholson and Shelley Nicholson Hirstius as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Eddie graduated from St. Aloysius in 1965 then joined the United States Air Force Reserve which led to his love of fighting fires. He joined the New Orleans Fire Department in 1967. He was a much sought after Operator who drove on sidewalks and could find water in the desert. In 1990, he was promoted to Captain and inherited ‘children’ at work who have gone on to make him proud. Unfortunately, an injury in April 2001 ended his career sooner than he would have liked. For years he wished he could fight one more fire.

The family would like to thank his lovely sitter, Lisa, and the wonderful staff at Passages for their incredible assistance during his last days with his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 11 AM – 1 PM with a memorial Mass to begin at 1 PM.
