She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Bessie Michalos; aunt, Mary Tragelis; and her grandparents, Samuel and Persephone Tragelis.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Phyllia Nugent; two sons, Samuel Nugent (Elizabeth) and Joseph Nugent (Suzanne); three sisters, Mary Webb (James), Effie Michalos, and Lisa Hoselle (Jacques); and seven grandchildren, Alexandra Wilson (Steven), Adrian LaCour, Victoria Nugent, Samuel Nugent, Maggie Holland (James), Katie Nugent, and Joseph Nugent.
Elaine’s career was spent as a special education teacher. She was a proud, lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in New Orleans, the first Greek Orthodox Church in the Americas. She was an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos, the church Archives committee, and was also a Sunday School teacher. She was an exceptional seamstress and sewed for many years for Loyola Ballet. Elaine was a self-taught artist, who loved to paint for family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1200 Robert E. Lee Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 12:00PM with Reverend Father George Wilson officiating. A visitation will be held at the Cathedral beginning at 10:00AM. The interment will proceed the service at Lake Lawn Park, followed by Makaria at the Church hall.
