Elizabeth Decuers de Boisblanc (Liz) passed away peacefully on November 4, 2015 surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of Dr. Rene de Boisblanc, she is survived by her children - Amy de Boisblanc Johnson (Sommer), Pierre and Lisette de Boisblanc, and her grandchildren - Juliette and Corinne Johnson. She is also survived by her siblings, Theodore, Robert, Nancy (Stephan), and Jane (Dru) Decuers, Mary Fontana, and countless other dear family and friends.
Liz was born and raised in New Orleans, daughter of Caroline Haight Decuers and James Conrad Decuers. She met Rene while they were students at LSU. They fell in love, married, and raised their three children in New Orleans. The two greatest passions of Liz’s young adult life were motherhood and ballet. She danced with Ballet Hysell performing in the Nutcracker, Mother West Wind, and numerous other productions. For Liz, ballet was a magical world where she could test the limits of her physical body and give herself up to “reckless abandon.”
Liz and Rene moved to Lake Vista in 1980, and Liz became an accomplished interior designer through her business, Audubon Interiors. Liz was also active in the Lake Vista Garden Club as member, president 1998-1999, and was honored as the Olivia Vaccaro Woman of the Year in 2000. Liz had a gift for creating beautiful gardens and dramatic doorways celebrating Christmas, Mardi Gras, and the Saints. The oak trees that she had planted as president will be enjoyed by her friends and neighbors for many years to come. At the Southern Yacht Club, Liz established the tradition of the Teddy Bear Christmas Tea, composed exquisite tablescapes, and served as luncheon co-chair (“Commo-diva”) in 2012-2013.
Affectionately known as “Mumsie” to her family, Liz delighted in creating an enchanting world of fantasy tea parties, sparkly dresses, and joyous performances with her cherished grandchildren.
Tenacious and courageous, Liz danced with joy through her life and will be remembered for her joie de vivre. Her family takes comfort knowing that she is now in the hands of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd, New Orleans, 70124, on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m.
