It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Elizabeth “Beth” Anne McCorquodale (nee Barnett). Beth was born in the summer of 1944 and was raised by her loving parents Joseph and Anne Barnett in Ingersol, Ontario. Beth was the loving, devoted and proud wife of Dr. John Alexander “Alex” McCorquodale whom she married in 1965. They resided in Windsor, Ontario until relocating to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1996. She died suddenly Friday March 26th, 2021 of heart complications in New Orleans with Alex by her side. Beth was a Registered Nurse but elected to focus her efforts on family and philanthropy. She was a loving, supportive and proud mother of her 4 children and 7 grandchildren: son Dr. James “Jim” (& Lynn) McCorquodale of LaSalle, ON, daughter Anne (& Steve) Wilford of St. Charles, IL, daughter Christine (& Abram) Banman of LaSalle, ON and son Alexander ”Sandy” McCorquodale of Toronto, ON and grandchildren Jacob, Christopher, Kate, Caleb and Joshua Wilford, Lauren McCorquodale and Alyssa Banman. Beth loved her extended family and is survived by her sister-in-law Mary Bray of London, ON, sister-in-law Linda McCorquodale of Lakeside, ON, brother-in-law David McCorquodale of Ingersoll, ON, brother-in-law Ken Ross of Victoria, BC, many cherished nieces and nephews, and was pre-deceased by her sister-in-law Jean Ross and brother-in-law Ross McCorquodale. Beth loved to visit with friends and family, play games, do puzzles, paint with water colours, sing, garden, read and spend time at their cottage on Pelee Island. She had an infectious smile and would strike up a friendly conversation with everyone she met. She volunteered throughout her life including at: Windsor Downtown Mission, Alicia Mason School, Glenwood United Church and Lakeview Presbyterian Church as a Sunday School Teacher, New Orleans Literacy Program STAIR and the Program of Hope for the homeless of New Orleans. She cherished her role as surrogate mother to many of Alex’s graduate students over the years. She is remembered fondly by her extended family, neighbours, friends and members of the community. The family would like to extend our gratitude to Beth and Alex’s neighbours Soheila, Barry and Elaine for all the love, laughter and caring they have shown over the years. There will be a virtual service held as a Zoom Meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend the Zoom service, please email [email protected] and the family will send you a Zoom Invite. The Zoom service will begin at 1:00 PM Central Daylight Savings Time (2:00 Eastern Daylight Savings Time). We encourage all who can, to attend on Zoom service. A funeral service will be at Lakeview Presbyterian Church by invitation for close family and friends. Beth was extremely empathetic especially for those in need so donations to the “Windsor Downtown Mission” at https://www.downtownmission.com/getinvolved/donate/ or “Lakeview Presbyterian Program of Hope” at http://fpcno.org/hope would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
