

Gayle Prat Carriere, 85, was born January 29, 1940, in New Orleans, and died June 30, 2025, in Baton Rouge. A resident of Vacherie and New Orleans, she was the daughter of the late Winona Maria Waguespack and Fernand George Prat Jr. She is survived by her three children, Olivier Provosty Carriere II (Meredith), Christine Carriere Zazulak (Scott), and Beth Carriere Sullivan (Brian Freese); sisters, Jo Ann Burkley (Dick), Sharla Doherty (Jim), Jean Phebus (Bernie), and Marie Baxley (Bill); brothers, Gordon Prat (Paula), Michael Prat (Anne), and F. George Prat III (Patrice). Mrs. Carriere is also survived by ten grandsons, Olivier “Ike” Carriere III, James Carriere II, John Zazulak II (Margaret), Robert Zazulak, David Zazulak, Stephen Zazulak, Philip Zazulak, Mark Kingsmill, Conor Sullivan, and Nicholas Sullivan, as well as one great-granddaughter and numerous loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart and was a member of the Children of Mary. She attended Barat College.
The family is grateful to Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge and Old Jefferson Community Care Center, especially Tinka Early, Charlene Brock, Darlene Brock, and Angela Brock, for companionship in which Gayle thrived since becoming a resident in 2021.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend an evening visitation on Monday, July 7, 2025 from 5:30 PM – 7 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans LA. A funeral service will be held the following day, Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at St. Philip Catholic Church, 1175 LA-18, Vacherie, LA. Visitation will be held from 10 AM – 11 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at St. Philip Cemetery.
