George Hernandez

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Gay Hernandez; daughter, Barbara Hernandez; son, James Hernandez; step-daughters, Petra Young and Mary Beth Schmitt; and step-son, Paul Schmitt. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Colyn Hernandez and Cayden Hernandez, and his step-grandchildren, Brady Young, Kayla de St. Germain, and Paula Schmitt.

George is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Mercedes Hernandez, and his first wife, Rita Hernandez.

George proudly served in the US Navy in World War II. He graduated from Loyola University, and worked for the federal government for more than 30 years in New Orleans. He was active in St. Philip Neri and St. Clement of Rome parishes. He served as President of the Legion of Mary and Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Relatives and friends are invited to the services on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. The visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. until the mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
