Gloriajoyce Disimone Manix, wife of Maurice J. “Moe” Manix, Sr. (JPSO, Ret) and mother of Maurice J. “Moe” Manix, Jr. (JPSO, Ret), Briant M. & Nancy J. Manix, Wayne A. Manix, Terasa A. Manix, and Jason A. Manix, lost her decade-long battle to blood cancer early Tuesday morning, July 12, 2016. She left this world peacefully, in her home with her family close by. She was born August 6, 1933 in New Orleans to Annette Tranchina Disimone and John Joseph Disimone, resided in the Carrolton area, and graduated from Francis T. Nichols High School Class of 1952. Gloria and Maurice married on November 6, 1955 at Mater Dolorosa Church and built their Metairie home in 1962 where she lived until her death. A long-time parishioner of St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church, she was often called on to bake numerous cakes for the parish fair and became a member of the “Come Lord Jesus” group. Gloria enjoyed an extremely full life including long-term substitute teacher (Trinity Episcopal, Marjorie Walters Excellerated, & Theodore Roosevelt Middle Schools), Cub Scout Den Mother, Camp Fire Girl Leader, and even reported on her experience as a USDA Analytical Sensory Evaluation Panelist by the Time Picayune Newspaper. She was known as HatLady365 to reflect the quantity of vintage & designer hats she owned and enjoyed wearing often. New Orleans Magazine article featured a beautiful picture of Gloria with a small sampling of her hat collection. Her escapades with her family over the years included the cockpit of a F-15 Strike Eagle, driver’s seat of Jeff Gordon’s racecar, the back of a circus elephant, the underside of a steamroller, and swimming with dolphins. She was an exceptional Italian New Orleans cook who loved to grocery shop and shared her recipes with many. Her life will be celebrated by family and friends at a visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 10am – 12noon, followed by mass in Chapel and interment immediately after in All Saints Mausoleum.
