Guy Anthony Chiappetta, age 81, a lifelong Louisiana native, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at his residence in Metairie. He was the eighth and last child born to his parents who predecease him, Amelia Maltese Chiappetta and Anthony Chiappetta of Port Sulphur, Louisiana.
Guy was married for 61 years to his beloved wife, Theresa Darnell “Nell” Chiappetta. For 35 years, they built a flourishing State Farm Insurance business that they dedicated to the service of clients and the community. During his decades as an agent and manager, Guy had a special place in his heart for educating young people through Junior Achievement. He generously supported others in a variety of hidden ways, including sponsoring Special Olympics and raising funds to support pro-life advocacy and Catholic education for disadvantaged youth via Good Shepherd School and a scholarship fund with St. Mary’s Dominican High School.
Guy gave generously of his time and leadership, serving on numerous Catholic Foundation boards and giving personally of his family home to support the mission of Heart Gift. He was also deeply involved with Legatus, where he served as both President and Board Member.
For many years in retirement, Guy volunteered to bake bread for the poor at St. Benedict’s Bakery, enjoying the fellowship of the monks at St. Joseph Abbey. He was named as an inaugural member of their St. Benedict Society.
A devoted Catholic and recent parishioner at St. Angela Merici, Guy was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Slidell for 25 years, where he served on countless boards and organizations, including the Knights of Columbus.
In his personal life, Guy found joy in cooking, boating, and traveling, especially when shared with family and friends. He was a past Commodore of South Shore Yacht Club and a past Mardi Gras king in the Krewe of Pontchartrain.
Guy is survived by three daughters, Dorinda Chiappetta Plaisance (Norris), Shelly Elizabeth Chiappetta, and Dawn Marie Chiappetta.
He was known as “Papa Guy” to his six grandchildren whom he dearly loved, having been predeceased by Michael A. Bordlee and survived by Rachelle Bordlee Nguyen (Brandon), Gabrielle B. Mauro (Blake), Maria “Mia” Bordlee (Eric Bussey), Joshua Trumbaturi and Sarah T. Owens (Kyle).
In addition to newly adopted fur-grandbaby Havana, the light of Guy’s final years were his six great-grandchildren: Eva, Kylan, Seraphina, Aria, Lucas and Amelia “Millie.”
He was dearly loved by his surviving sister Mary Ann Vallot Jurisich, as well as by his siblings who predecease him: Frances Cosse, Caroline Chauvin, Louise Ballay, Catherine Chauvin, Amelia (Mamie) Tullier, and Joseph Chiappetta. Countless nephews and nieces looked for loving guidance from “Uncle Guy.”
In constant gratitude to God, Guy enjoyed life to the full. Even in the final years of health-related afflictions, Guy was known for his joie de vivre, wisdom, and gentle encouragement to “carry on” with faith and perseverance. He will be deeply missed and gratefully remembered.
All funeral services will be held on the premises of Lake Lawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm. Following the private family interment, a reception will follow.
