

Henry John "Jack" Hinrichs, 96, passed away on July 28, 2024, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born in New Orleans in 1927 to Henry Charles and Catherine Abbott Hinrichs. After graduating from Alcée Fortier High School, he attended Tulane University and graduated with degrees in Mechanical and Civil Engineering. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1946 and served as an Electronics Technician Second Class until 1948.
In 1952, he married his loving wife, Frances Wehrenberg Hinrichs, at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church where he went on to serve as a deacon and elder. A father of three, he is survived by daughter Linda Christovich, sons Fred (Liane) and Clark Hinrichs (Claudia), and five grandchildren, John Michael (Laura) and Michelle Christovich, and Avery, Turner, and Campbell Hinrichs, and two great grandchildren, Scarlett and Cooper Christovich. His wife predeceased him.
Most of his professional career was with the Port of New Orleans, where after thirty-two years he retired as Chief Engineer. Following this, he worked for seven years with the New York engineering consulting firm, Soros Associates, Inc., which did extensive work abroad for the World Bank. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and member of the Louisiana Engineering Society. He was also a past president of the Huguenot Society of New Orleans, a member of the Military Order of Foreign Wars, the Royal Society of St. George, the Pickwick Club, and the Southern Yacht Club. He was also a Freemason.
Throughout his life, he freely shared his many talents and engineering skills with those who showed interest and also put his skills to work acting as general contractor on several major house renovations for his children.
He was very much loved and will be dearly missed. Visitation will take place at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
