

Hilary McDuff Clark died peacefully on November 6, 2023 at Colonial Oaks Living Center. She was born on August 5, 1930 in Dorking Surrey, England. Her parents were Marjorie and Collin Clark. At the age of 17, Hilary enlisted in the British Army. Due to her catering experience, she was assigned to cook for the officers. After discharge, Hilary worked in Star Hotels in England, Jamaica, Spain, and Puerto Rico before coming to the United States. She was highly respected by the management of Sea Island Resort in Georgia; Bill Gibson regularly kept in touch with care packages. Hilary retried as Executive Housekeeper at the Royal Sonesta. After retirement, she worked at Longue Vue House and Gardens. Using her influence, she was able to secure that venue for DBE events. In the 1970s, Hilary joined the Plimsoll Chapter of The Daughters of the British Empire and then the Elizabethan Chapter, which was the first chapter in Louisiana. She was an active member who worked tirelessly for the DBE and enjoyed wearing costumes for events. In 1990, Hilary accompanied Heather Cavanaugh, South District Organizer, and Berthie Kvinge, National President, on her tour of Southern states. As an ardent supporter of The Commonwealth, she belonged to The Caledonian Society and supported The Belize Association of Louisiana. A Memorial Mass will be held for Hilary on at ST. ANN CHURCH AND SHRINE, 3601 Transcontinental Drive, Metairie, on Saturday morning, December 2, 2023 at 10:00. Visitation will begin at 9:00.
